Amy Lightner, MD - Recognized Authority in Colorectal Surgery
Amy Lightner, MD, is an internationally renowned colorectal surgeon and leader whose work has advanced the field of inflammatory bowel disease and regenerative medicine. She currently serves as a professor of molecular medicine and immunology, and microbiology at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, California. Amy Lightner, MD, is also a colorectal surgeon with Scripps Clinic Medical Group.
Before joining Scripps, Amy Lightner, MD, held leadership roles at the Cleveland Clinic and, before that, Mayo Clinic. At the Cleveland Clinic, she founded and directed the Center for Regenerative Medicine and Surgery. She is on the executive committee of Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and co-chairs S-ECCO, European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization.
Over the course of her career, Amy Lightner, MD, has served as principal investigator on numerous clinical trials and completed dozens of research studies on inflammatory bowel disease. Her work has received funding from prominent organizations, including NIH, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine. Amy Lightner, MD, has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed publications in respected journals and has contributed extensively to national and international clinical practice through presentations at medical conferences.
Dr. Amy Lightner earned her MD from Boston University School of Medicine in 2008. She completed surgical training at UCLA and holds an executive MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. She remains deeply committed to advancing evidence-based care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease through her work as a colorectal surgeon, researcher, professor, and speaker.
